Make Waves at Your Library
The 2010 Summer Reading Club is Under Way!
All summer long teens entering grades 7 and up are invited to participate in our no-pressure reading program.
Read what you want, how much you want, and choose your prizes. For each book you read hand in a short review, online or in person and receive a prize (up to 6 prizes). Each review you hand in counts as a raffle entry for the weekly raffles and the grand prize raffle at the end of the summer. For the latest news, raffles, and games,

Summer Volunteer Opportunities for Teens
Teen Volunteers are needed for a number of different activities at the North Merrick Public Library. Examples include:

Participation in the Teens –n- Tots Program : Thursday Afternoons from 3 – 4pm.

Write teen book reviews or short articles that may be displayed in the Library and/or posted on the Library's Web page or social networking sites

Design posters and displays to encourage teens to read

Help plan and host programs and events, including the Outdoor Family Movie Night and the Halloween Spooktacular .
In addition to T-n-T and special events the following dates have been selected for volunteer times:
Tuesday, July 6th , Thursday, July 15th 6– 7 pm, Thursday, August 5th 6—7pm and Tuesday, August 17th 6—7pm.

Get your Game on at the Library
Come join us on Thursday July 1st for Teen Game Night. Put together by the TAB at the North Merrick Library, Teen Game night is your opportunity to challenge your friends, show off your gaming skills, and just hang out. We will have snacks, video games, board games, prizes and more! Games will be available, but feel free to bring your favorite games!

Hula Lessons— Learn how to hula dance, including tips on basic hula moves as well as the meanings behind the dances and how each movement is a story in itself. Olivia Meyers of the Aloha Iolani Hawaiian Dance Troupe will introduce teens to the art of hula, Hawaiian music and culture. |

Embellished Flip Flops— Nothing says summer like a fun pair of flip-flops. Learn how you can inexpensively customize your own pair. One pair of flip-flops will be provided to each participant, but you must register and provide your shoe size no later than July 2nd. All others may bring their own pair of (inexpensive) flip-flops to transform. |

Teens -N- Tots Training Session Teen volunteers are needed for our popular summer T-N-T program. Throughout the summer teens and children will read together, do a craft & play simple games. T-N-T will be held on Thursday afternoons in July & August. Community Service Credits will be a warded. |

Tie Dye T-Shirts In this workshop, participants will learn different ways to create patterns using various techniques and colors and will create a unique T-shirt. T-shirts are provided! It may get messy so wear old clothes. |

Flip The Page: Flip Video Editing Workshop
Learn how to record and edit videos using a flip camera. Participants who record a video book review will be eligible for a grand prize! |

Registration is necessary for all programs and takes place two weeks prior to each event, unless otherwise noted.
Please note that all Summer Reading Club Prizes are limited and are on a first come first serve basis.
Summer Reading Club Beach Display
Throughout the Summer Teens AND Tweens are encouraged to bring their “best beach finds” for the library’s display.
At the end of the summer there will be a contest for the best finds. Participants are encouraged to bring in items they
found beautiful, interesting or just plain weird. Photos will be accepted, and encouraged especially if the item is
too large, perishable or alive!
