Book Discussion: Anna In-Between Anna In-Between is a small story that tackles some very big themes. In this vivid new novel, Elizabeth Nunez deftly explores family strife and immigrant identity. Anna, the product of an upper-class Caribbean family, is a divorced book editor living in New York, who returns to her island home to visit her aging parents. Once there, she discovers that her mother has been silently suffering from breast cancer and that her father has chosen not to see the obvious or address it. As Anna tries to get her mother treated in America, she finds herself caught between her parents as well as between cultures. She struggles with what it means to be born of one place, but yet to be part of another. Nunez hooks the reader with expressive prose and convincing characters, while probing the complexities of identity politics. Refreshments will be served, compliments of The Friends. Linda Judenberg will moderate. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.
